Literacy Green Bay’s Scrabble Bee Contest

Librarians Julie Chapman and Kim LaPlante were on NWTC’s winning team this year for the Scrabble Bee contest.  The contest raised money and awareness for Literacy Green Bay.

Julie and Kim (along with Mary Kay Pfeiffer, Deb Stackley, Mary and Al VanHaute, and Tom and Ursala Hinz), captured first place by having the most points in two rounds of unusual Scrabble.  In the first 15 minute round, all words had to relate to “snowstorm”.  The theme for the second 15 minute round was “presidential”.

NWTC’s score of 1717 points came from some key words – crystalizations, disillusionment, and disenfranchised (to name a few).  The team had a great time, and more importantly, raised money to help teach reading skills to community residents.
