March is Student Art Month, and the NWTC Library is showcasing a large exhibit by Cheri Martell and her NWTC Art Students! We are also hosting a public reception for the students on Saturday, March 3rd from 4:00 to 6:00 pm (refreshments provided).
With 130 pieces, this is by far the largest exhibit NWTC has ever presented. Covering a wide range of media, the exhibit includes a variety of painting styles, landscape photography, photography on metal, traditional Indian craft gourds, wood carvings, scrimshaw carvings, and more. The 17 students come from Cheri Martell’s classes in the Green Bay metro area and the Oconto Falls area (Northwest Region).
Martell is an award-winning realist painter, with a home studio and gallery in Suamico. She has worked with a variety of different media throughout her lifetime – sculpture, metals, ceramics, pastel, watercolor, acrylic, and oil; the latter being her preferred medium today.
Martell shares her passion for painting as an NWTC instructor. In addition to painting techniques, her classes cover the business aspects of art including marketing and selling one’s work. Martell has a Business Management associate degree from NWTC and has many years of experience producing and selling her own art.
The exhibit will run from now through April 11th. Check out the fine work produced by our own student artists!
